 Our Story
There exists a lovely woman, I’ll call her Mom. This is primarily Mom’s story,
but I have a small, yet vital role to play as well. And although there are many
fascinating elements to Mom, there are two unique traits that made Tartan
Christmas possible, nay, inevitable. You see, Mom is very crafty, not in the
slinky, weasely sense, but crafty as in able to do anything and everything with
her hands. A talent I didn’t inherit, I might add. And the other thing, the
thing you might think you understand, but you simply do not: Mom has an abiding
Christmas Spirit…all year long, but brilliantly apparent a single day after
Thanksgiving thru December of every year. I could take the time to explain this
more thoroughly, but unless you want to visit the house and look at any of the
three 8’ Christmas trees or attempt to count the more than 200 snowmen, I just
don’t think there is language to express my point. You see where I’m going with
this, don’t you?
Mom comes from good Irish stock, and she married a lad from a good Scottish
clan, and pride in one’s heritage comes quite naturally to peoples like these.
And when I grew up and married (not for a very long time, which quite
distressed the protagonist of this tale), I imported a strapping Scot from East
Kilbride (a small town near Glasgow). Yes, my often incoherent mate sports a
Rangers cap on his head, a Rampant Lion and a Scottish Flag on his bumper, and
daily asks me what we’re having for tea. Pride in his homeland is very strong
in his soul. The stage is almost set.
So I asked Mom, as you do, if she would consider making us Christmas stockings
in the Stewart tartan as a surprise for my Scot. This was the spark that
kindled the fire. Not only did Mom design a fabulous Christmas stocking, she
Created, out of Nothingness, a tree kilt to take your breath away. I know this
because I felt the air being sucked out of my chest when I first beheld the
gorgeous thing. Even knowing what Mom was capable of with those magic hands of
hers, I was stunned. Everyone will want one; that was my epiphany.
When Mom and I sat down and talked about the things she might create for
Christmas, we ended up with a cornucopia of potential. Never before had Mom
considered that THIS would be how she would spend her retirement, and yet here
we are. All Tartan Christmas goods are handcrafted with love by Mom; everything
is custom exactly to customer specification. We invite you to visit us and
inspect our creations in person at a Highland or Celtic Festival near you, or
you can browse the website. All goods are 100% guaranteed.
My role is limited as I can barely sew on a button, but I am Chief
Co-conspirator in addition to being Webmaster, as my talents lie in a more
technical direction.
Sincerely,
Robin Stewart
